Sextortion Scam Uses Recipient’s Hacked Passwords

July 24, 2018

I've had a few clients call that have received this scam e-mail so I thought I'd better inform the rest of you. If you have received this e-mail, it's a scam but may contain an actual password you have used in the past. The scammers probably got your password from one of the many data breaches that have occurred; Yahoo, Equifax, Anthem, Home Depot, etc. The scammers are only using the password to validate their scam. They DON'T appear to be using the password to hack into any account of yours. Click the graphic below for more info.
